Don’t let stress get the best of you

Big client presentations. Meeting your future in-laws. No matter what stage of life you’re in, stress has an almost guaranteed presence. It might not be obvious, but stress can really affect your wellbeing.

Not all stress is the same

There are multiple types of stress. The most widely known is emotional stress. That’s the kind you experience when you’re juggling 1,000 things at once at work and another 1,000 at home. But, there’s also a physical kind called oxidative stress. That one has more to do with your environment and reactions happening at the chemical level.1

Free radicals are at fault

Free radicals are oxygen-based compounds that cause oxidative stress and damage your cells. These free radicals are created by a number of factors, including sunlight exposure, pollution, heavy exercise, alcohol consumption, smoking, and more. While we can do some things to control oxidative stress in our life (wearing sunscreen, not smoking, eating healthier, etc.), these measures may not be enough.  

Antioxidants take the fight to free radicals 

Taking antioxidants can help prevent oxidative stress and cell damage. Antioxidants are molecules which interrupt free radical chains, and the oxidative stress they cause, to prevent vital cell damage.2 Foods like berries, nuts, and spinach are good sources of antioxidants. But, the antioxidants we get from food only help slow down the damage of oxidative stress.
